About

Ottelien Huckin (born 1993) is a London-based artist who paints by way of drawing.

Drawing directly onto canvas with oil bar her practice seeks to capture the quality and spontaneity of a preparatory sketch. Soft dream-like figures and motifs influenced by classical mythology and imagery developed by the Old Masters emerge from landscapes of sensual line. Her paintings are an intimate diary of gently diluted mistakes and triumphant landed marks. Using bold pigments that resonate with her Dutch heritage, Ottelien expands this gestural approach to oil whilst still bearing the influence of classical draughtsmanship, questioning the hierarchy of painting by raising the status of drawing to canvas.
